Vietnam Disburses US$1.2 Bln ODA in Jan-July
Vietnam disbursed around US$1.2 billion in the first seven months of this year, fulfilling 63 per cent of the year’s plan, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) said on August 11.
Of the sum, 70 per cent was ODA funded by the three donors of the World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
The ministry said projects in the fields of electricity, transport and agricultural development saw the high disbursement rate, meanwhile projects of education, health, finance and urban development remained sluggish.
The Southeast-Asian country has set the target to disburse some US$2 billion, including US$1.75 billion preferential ODA loans and US$250 million in non-refundable aids, the ministry said.
According to the MPI, Vietnam is expected to receive pledged capital of US$12.35-US$15.7 billion in 2006-2010 period, representing a remarkable increase against US$8 billion from 2001 to 2005.
Disbursed ODA capital is expected to stand between US$11.46 billion and US$12.41 between 2006 and 2010. (Vietnam Economic Times)
