Czech President Censures Visa Postponement, Police Raid over Vietnamese Market
Czech President Vaclav Klaus was not pleased with the unilateral blocking of visas for Vietnamese citizens, President Advisor Ladislav Jakl said Nov 30.
Ladislav Jakl told the telecast Nova that President Klaus had written to relevant interior and foreign ministers on the matter.
The advisor added President Klaus also rebuked the police raid on the Sapa Vietnamese market in Prague, describing it as an extreme and ineffective act.
Some 1,000 police officials and inspectors, along with helicopter, armored car and scout dogs, participated in the raid Nov 22, according to the news agency CKT.
“Such dramatic interventions should not substitute for regular market inspections, even if the public do not support the mundane daily checks,” Jakl said.
Vietnamese students in the Czech Republic have organized a petition against the police action, saying authorities had exaggerated the severity of the situation to play up to the media. (Thanh Nien, Vietnam Net)
