Vietnam's 08 Exports Nearly Hit US$63 Bln
Vietnam is estimated to rake in US$62.9 billion from goods exports this year, up 29.5 per cent on-year, said the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
The nation is also forecast to spend US$79.9 billion on imports for the whole year, up 27.5 per cent on-year, resulting in Vietnam’s 2008 trade deficit of US$17 billion, much under the initial forecast of US$20 billion for the year, said the ministry.
This year’s trade deficit accounts for 27 per cent of the country’s total export, down from 50 per cent during the first half of the year.
Both import and export values in December stand at over US$4 billion each, added the MPI without giving out exact on-year comparison figures.
The Vietnamese National Assembly has set exports target of US$72 billion in 2009, up 13 per cent on-year, said Trade and Industry newspaper. (Investment)
