VCCI Launches Program Supporting Local Exporters to Enter U.S. Market

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has recently started a program assisting Vietnamese exporters to penetrate into the U.S. market to further boost the country’s exports amid the global economic downturn.

VCCI has been conducting a program on supporting ’s export companies to enter the market from January 6 to March 6, 2009 with the following issues:
- Assessing impacts of the financial crisis on ’s exports.
- Providing information the U.S market and updates reports of U.S. customs regarding to Vietnam’s key export items to the market such as leather and footwear, garment and textile, seafood, coffee, furniture and others.
- Supporting ’s exporters to enter the market via IT application.  

The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has forecast that exports to the U.S. will expand only 14 per cent in 2009, lower than 19 per cent growth in 2008.
 
The slow exports growth is attributed to the dropping demand triggered by the global economic slowdown and protectionism tools imposed by the U.S., trade analysts said.
 
Last year, Vietnam shipped US$12.2 billion goods to the U.S. Most of its export staples reported high growth rates, including apparel with US$4.47 billion, up 22.5 per cent, woodwork products with US$1.18 billion, up 19.3 per cent, footwear with US$1 billion, up 14.6 per cent, audio-visual equipment with US$396.59 million, up 33.4 per cent and paper products with US$93.36 million, up 67.8 per cent.
