EVN to Invest USUS$3.03 Bln in Power Projects This Year
The state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) said that it will pour nearly VND50 trillion (USUS$3.03 billion) into electricity generation projects this year, state media reported, citing the group's sources.
The group has to date mobilized VND44.39 trillion (USUS$2.69 billion) and is actively seeking the rest of VND5.61 trillion (USUS$340 million), EVN said.
As part of efforts to make up the shortfall, EVN will take full use of official development assistance (ODA) and preferential credit sources, seek commercial loans, and ensure its plan to issue VND4 trillion (USUS$242.42 million) worth of bonds.
EVN is accelerating construction of nine power projects with a combined capacity of 2,696 MW in an effort to put them into operation this year.
It is also preparing to start construction of four thermal power plants with a combined capacity of 3,800 MW in the year, as well as Vietnam's first nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 4,000 MW in 2013 in central Ninh Thuan province.
Vietnam is expected to put into operation 15 power plants with a combined capacity of 3,570 MW within 2009.
The country is predicted to face a severe power shortage of 10.3 billion kWh this year while the northern region will lack 200 million kWh of electricity during the dry season. (New Hanoi)
