VCCI Executive Board 3rd Session (V tenure) was held on May 15, 2009 with a report on VCCI activities in 2008 and the first five months of 2009. The meeting also discussed on honouring entrepreneurs 2009 and Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day, contribution to law-making process, PCI 2008, labour relations, economic recession and assistance to businesses.
According to Dr. Vu Tien Loc, VCCI President, the Chamber has successfully performed its function in 2008 such as organizing VCCI 5th Convention, advising the Party and State on drafting law and policy, improving investment and business environment, assisting, training and developing businesses, promoting trade and investment, labour relations, upgrading VCCI organization and capacity.
Reviewing VCCI activities in 2008 and the first 5 months of 2009, Dr. Vu Tien Loc said that VCCI efficiency has been upgraded by 25 percent in 2008, and by 20 percent in the first five months of 2009, meeting the demand of the business community and economic development and improving VCCI role and prestige.
Concerning honouring entrepreneurs and Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day, Dr. Vu Tien Loc said that the events were organized successfully in 2008 and will be more successful in 2009 with stronger support of the business community.
The meeting also discussed the plan of action on advisory roles, improvement of the business environment, employers’ representation, training and developing businesses, trade and investment promotion, expansion of export market and development of domestic market. According to Dr. Vu Tien Loc, VCCI has participated in negotiating teams on bilateral and multilateral trade and economic cooperation, representing the role and interest of the business community in international business and investment opportunities.
VCCI has also continued to host business forums with key markets such as China, EU and Japan to attract investment and increase export. In the first five months of 2009, VCCI has received 150 business delegations with 5,400 foreign business people seeking business opportunities in Vietnam and organized 40 business missions with 6,000 Vietnamese entrepreneurs to participate in international conferences, market surveys and trade fairs including entrepreneurs accompanying State visits and signing contracts worth billions of US dollars.
VCCI also helped develop business associations, economic groups, State corporations; unite businesses, expand export and generate jobs. The Chamber also encouraged businesses to use each other’s products and services such as between banks and SMEs, research institutions and manufacturing enterprises, promotion agencies and businesses to restructure their organization and activities. VCCI also grants Certificates of Origin free of charge to help businesses cut down export expenses.
