M'Drak district was formed on August 30, 1977 from the separation of Krong Pak district. As a gateway to Dak Lak, M’Drak has an easy traffic to Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen provinces. Last year, production value of the district increased 13.26 per cent and per capita income was VND8.031 million a year. Notably, the district has caught the eyes of domestic and international investors.
In 2008, crop area and output increased and exceeded annual plans. The higher-than-expected results came from good rain. Besides, the timely guidance of local authorities to adopt and care crops and apply scientific and technological advances uplifted the output. Husbandry value was VND47.01 billion, equal to 14 per cent of the total agricultural production and up 1.4 per cent from 2007.
The total industrial production was valued at VND27,474.68 million in 2008, a rise of VND5,211.65 million against 2007. Of the sum, the State-owned sector contributed VND4,011 million, or 14.6 per cent of the total and non-state sector made up VND23,46.67 million, or 85.4 per cent. Total sales of retail, trading and service were estimated at VND201 billion, compared with VND172 billion in 2007. Prices of commodities have been gradually stabilised while purchasing power has increased.
In investment attraction, the district is considering licensing the Hanoi-based Red Star International Co. Ltd to invest in an industrial - agricultural complex on an area of 1,130 ha in Ea Lai commune. This zone will house animal feed plant, agricultural farms, livestock farms, biogas plant, and fertilizer plant, and biogas-fuelled project. This project will cost nearly VND300 billion. Once operation, this project will create jobs for thousands of local people and give a wing to the development of the district as well as Dak Lak province.
Mr Phan Van Chan, Chairman of M’Drak district, said: The district will focus on developing handicraft, expand rural electric networks, build infrastructure, speed up forest allocation to local people and expand forest coverage.
