Drawing More Overseas Vietnamese to Invest in Homeland
The conference on establishing the Vietnam Overseas Business Association is set to be held at the International Convention Centre (11 Le Hong Phong Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) on August 9 - 10, 2009. This event will be held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Mr Nguyen Thanh Son, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said the conference will be a forum for enterprises to exchange business opportunities, share experience, scientific and technological achievements. This is also a place for enterprises to introduce and talk with competent State agencies or domestic and international experts on issues of concerns.
Mr Son added there are around 3.5 - 3.7 million overseas Vietnamese, or Viet Kieu, including over 300,000 intellects.
Mr Pham Gia Tuc, VCCI Vice President, stressed the association would be formed to unite, support and facilitate members to boost investment, production, business, commercial and service activities in Vietnam and in other nations. At present, more than 200 overseas Vietnamese working worldwide registered to be members of the Association.
