The Information Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agroinfo) said that Vietnamese firms have cut orders for imported frozen meat for Lunar New Year, or Tet festival by 30%.

Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, PR manager of Metro Cash & Carry, said that imported frozen meat supply from local supermarkets will slightly decrease in the last two months of 2009 due to the falling domestic demand.

However, the domestic demand for fresh meat tends to rise, the center forecast.

The Agroinfo said that prices of fresh meat offered by local processing firms will rise during Tet because recent typhoons damaged cattle farms in central region. (Agroinfo)
