Rice Prices Rebounding in Vietnam
Tien Giang Food Co. said that rice prices have rebounded since Dec 19 in Mekong Delta region as local firms start delivering rice under already-signed contracts for 2010.
The prices increased by VND200-VND300/kg from a week earlier to VND5,200-VND5,400/kg of unhusked rice, and VND6,500-VND7,000/kg of fragrant rice.
Local food firms said that rice prices dropped over a week from Dec 12 to 19 when they boosted sales to raise funds back to commercial banks while a large volume were imported from Cambodia.
The company’s leaders vowed to provide enough rice for Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces for VND8,000-VND9,000/kg despite the price hike. (Youth)
