Vietnam Exports to U.S. Forecast to Rise 10% in 2010
Vietnam’s exports to the U.S. in 2010 are forecast to increase 10% from a year earlier, said the Vietnamese Trade Counselor to the U.S. Ngo Van Thoan.
The estimate was based on positive results of the bilateral trade in 2009 despite negative impacts of the global economic downturn, Thoan said, adding that Vietnam is forecast to rank 25th or 26th among the largest exporters to the U.S. this year, up from the 30th in 2008.
Vietnam exported nearly $10.243 billion worth of goods to the U.S. in the first ten months of this year, down 2.3% on-year, the lowest fall compared to that of other exporters to the U.S. such as Canada and Germany with respective on-year drop of 34% and 29%, he added.
Vietnam’s exports to the U.S. will see on-year fall in 2009 due to decreases in goods prices, the trade counselor forecast, noting the market share of Vietnam’s key exports, however, will be improved.
In 2008, Vietnam shipped $12.9 billion worth of goods to the American country and imported $2.789 billion. (New Hanoi, VNA)
