The Vietnam General Department of Customs started expanding e-customs procedures at ten provincial and municipal customs offices on Dec. 15.

The move is in line with the Prime Minister’s decision on Aug. 12 on expanding a pilot e-customs declaration program till the end of 2011.

Customs offices in Hanoi, Lang Song, Haiphong, Quang Ninh, Danang, Quang Ngai, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau will participate in the program.

The e-customs program, which is designed to standardize the procedures nationwide and shorten the time it takes to clear customs, is part of a larger e-commerce project undertaken by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The program has been piloted in Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh City since October 2005. (Liberation Saigon)
