Vietnam’s paper production output will triple to 2.8 million tons in 2011 as a number of new paper and pulp mills start operating soon, according to the Vietnam Pulp and Paper Association (VPPA).

The association said that local private companies are striving to raise their capacity to 100,000 tons yearly each in the coming years from current 30,000 tons, including VinaKraft with capacity of 220,000 tons/year; An Hoa; Tan Mai and Phuong Nam mills in Long An province.

The association’s General Secretary Vu Ngoc Bao said that with production growth, Vietnam’s import of paper will decrease while export will increase.

Bao expects that the country will export around 600,000-800,000 tons in 2011 as domestic consumption is forecast at only 2 million-2.2 million tons. (Vietnam Economic Times)
