Trade between Vietnam and Russia increased 4% from a year earlier to over $1.7 billion in 2009, according to an official of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Vietnam still incurred trade deficit with Russia last year, Vice Chairman of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gheorgy Petrov said at a conference held in Moscow on Jan. 19.

Vietnam and Russia are trying to boost bilateral trade to $10 billion in the next years, up from $1.64 billion in 2008.

The target was set during a meeting between Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during his two-day visit to Russia in December 2009. (VNA)
