Vietnam Petroleum Imports Fall 43% to $6.3B in 2009: Ministry
Vietnam had spent $6.3 billion on importing 12.705 million tons of petroleum products in 2009, down 43% in value and 2% in volume from a year earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
The Southeast Asian country imported 924,000 tons of the products worth $540 million last year, up 29.7% and 30.9% on-year, respectively, the ministry said.
Vietnam had imported 4.93 million tons of petroleum products from Singapore last year, down 19.5% on year.
The figure made Singapore the biggest petroleum supplier to Vietnam in 2009.
Petroleum imports from China rose 341% to 2.43 million metric tons, while imports from Russia rose 266% to 612,881 tons in 2009, the ministry said.
Vietnam consumed an estimated 15 million tons of petroleum products in 2009, up 4% from a year earlier.
This year, the country’s petroleum consumption is forecast to rise to 16.3 million tons. (vinanet)
