Vietnam Imports $488.5M worth of Pesticide, Materials in 2009
Vietnam spent $488.5 million on pesticide and material imports in 2009, up 3.1% from 2008, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said on its website.
In Dec 2009, Vietnam bought $29 million of pesticides and materials, down 46.5% from a month earlier.
China was the main provider of pesticides and materials for Vietnam in 2009 with a revenue of $202 million, up 0.9% compared to that a year earlier and accounted 41.4% of total imports of the country.
Switzerland exported $38.5 million of pesticides and materials to Vietnam, up 2,842%; followed by the U.K. with revenue of $13.9 million, up 1,186%, accounting 7.9% and 2.8% of total imports of Vietnam in 2009, respectively.
In the downturn, Singapore exported $16 million of pesticides to Vietnam, down 82.4%, Malaysia $5.4 million, down 69%, the U.S. $9.7 million, down 5.4%. (Vinanet)
