Golden Rose Cup 2010 - Fostering Spirit of Vietnamese Businesswomen

3:28:36 PM | 3/5/2010

The Golden Rose Award is an annual laureate granted by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council and the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU), aiming to honour Vietnamese women in general and Vietnamese businesswomen in particular for their excellent achievements in production and business and their contributions to socioeconomic development that help accelerate the national industrialisation and modernisation.

Through this award, VCCI wants to reaffirm its desire to compliment outstanding women and businesswomen who can do housework and social affairs at the same time. They represent thousands of brilliant women who are excellent not only at doing business but also at holding the “warmth” at their homes. With that meaning, the Golden Rose Award is not only an ordinary award but also encourages and supports the entrepreneurship of women to play in all circumstances. This is not just the honour of typical female entrepreneurs but also the honour of all female entrepreneurs in the country as they have overcome numerous difficulties and social prejudices to enrich themselves, their families and the society.

The Vietnamese economy in general and Vietnamese companies in particular are in the turning period. We are facing up with the global economic crisis and our businesspeople need wills and wits to live through. More than ever, enterprises and entrepreneurs, including businesswomen, should strive to become the main vanguard force to curb difficulties, create a springing force to push back the economic crisis, stabilise production and help solve social security. In fact, in the context of economic downturn, many businesswomen are very creative to find out suitable directions for their business.

With their activeness and industry, many businesswomen have made success and other exemplary feats. The very Golden Roses are the example of surmounting difficulties, helping not only their business to sustain the development but also other businesses to develop strongly. Thus, the tribute paid to female entrepreneurs will help encourage businesses to climb to new planes. They have the right to take pride as their achievements are recognised and honoured.

The Golden Rose Award 2010 will be held at 8:00 p.m. on March 6, 2010 to pay homage to 100 outstanding female entrepreneurs. This year, 100 awards will be granted instead of 36 as usual as this year is the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day. This year’s cups will be elaborately inscribed the name of winner. To this effect, the awarding ceremony is considered the centre of the first-ever National Week on Vietnamese Women 2010. The week will be jointly held by VCCI and VWU from March 1 to March 7, 2010 in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and many other localities in the country.

According to Ms Tran Thi Thuy, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, the qualifying criteria are built on two main groups: corporate achievements and individual achievements. Each criteria group has specific requirements reflecting their contributions to the economy and society. According to Ms Thuy, due to its special significance of the100th anniversary of International Women's Day, the Golden Rose Award 2010 has several new criteria like crisis troubleshooting; activeness and creativity in production and business; contributions to social and community development, etc.

In addition, the criteria should take annualised factors into account like sales, workforce and tax payment. For female entrepreneurs, other criteria should also be considered, including family happiness, cultured lifestyle, public relations and behaviour with the environment. These criteria are compared and selected, depending on regional economic development conditions. Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, the two largest cities in Vietnam where there are largest number of enterprises, will have 20 awards and 15 awards, respectively.

Although there are many awards for enterprises and many industries, the Golden Rose Award is likely the only for businesswomen. It really creates a strong catalyst to help women to be more confident and steadfast in their careers.
