Vietnam Coal Exports to China Down 32.39% to 1.9M Tons in Jan-Feb: Ministry
Vietnam exported 1.9 million tons of coal to China in the first two months of this year, down 32.39% from a year earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
The Southeast Asian country raked in $123.3 million from the outbound shipments between Jan and Feb, up 6.08% on-year, the ministry attributed.
Vietnam shipped abroad 1.04 million tons of coal worth $64.32 million to China in Feb, accounting for 41.5% of the national coal exports to the neighbor in the month and up 9.81% on-month in terms of revenues.
Vietnam is currently a key coal supplier to China and Japan.
Analysts said the Southeast Asian nation should stop exporting coal for national reserves as the country is forecast to have to start importing coal from 2012.
This year, the state-owned Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has set a target to produce between 46 million and 48 million tons of coal. The group plans to sell 43 million tons of coal in 2010, including 18 million tons for exports. (Vinanet)
