Vietnam to Facilitate Japan Firms to Invest in Transport Projs: Deputy PM

The Vietnamese government has pledged incentives for Japanese companies to invest in major transport infrastructure projects in the country, Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai told Japanese officials on May 4.
 
Deputy PM Hai made a statement at a meeting with Japan National Policy Minister Yoshito Sengoku and Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Seiji Maehara on May 4 in Hanoi.
 
Earlier, Vietnamese Minister of Transport Ho Nghia Dung had a meeting with the two ministers to discuss implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed last year and to prepare the next comprehensive deal.
 
Also, at the meeting, Minister Dung proposed the Japanese government continue funding for eight transport infrastructure projects in Vietnam including North-South railway, expressway and Ngoc Hoi-Yen Vien elevated railway.
 
Recently Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc visited Japan to learn more about the Japanese technology as part of preparations to build a US$55 billion north-south railway.
 
Japanese companies invested US$18 billion in 1,194 projects in Vietnam by the end of the first quarter this year, said the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
 
At the Consultative Group Meeting held in Hanoi on December 3-4 last year, Japan pledged to provide Vietnam with US$1.64 billion in ODA this year. (www.chinhphu.vn, Investment)
