International tourists to Ho Chi Minh City are estimated to have increased 10% from a year earlier to 1.3 million in the first five months, said the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The figure accounts for more than 50% of the total foreign travelers to Vietnam during the period.

The city’s tourism revenues are estimated to have soared 41.4% on year to VND6.37 trillion (US$333.7 million) between January and May.

Ho Chi Minh City aims to welcome 2.8 million foreign visitors and earn tourism revenues of VND40 trillion (US$2.09 billion) in 2010, up 7% and 15% on year, respectively.

To gain the targets, the city will launch more tourism promotion programs, upgrade tourism infrastructure, diversify products, train and retrain human resources. (The Law)
