VND4.35T Airport to Open in Northwest Vietnam in 2012
The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport and the People’s Committee of Lai Chau province have announced a plan to build the Lai Chau airport at an estimated cost of VND4.35 trillion, expecting to operate it in 2012.
The airport will cover 117 hectares in Tan Uyen town, or 60 kilometers from the southeast of the inner province which is bounded with China in the north.
It will be built to 3C standards under the international civil airport code, and to level 3 under the military standards for both civil and military purposes.
The airport will be connected to the national civil airport network and will be a local service airport by 2020, and an internal civil airport by 2030.
Under the plan, the airport will have a runway of about 2,000 meter long and 30 meter wide, capable of receiving F70 and ATR72 airplanes.
The airport is designed to serve around 7,300 passengers yearly once operational. Its annual capacity will rise to 40,000 passengers and 100 tons of cargo by 2020 and 110,000 passengers and 300 tons of cargo by 2030. (VNA)
