Vietnam Seeks to Boost Coffee Exports to Canada
A delegation from seven Vietnamese coffee firms arrived in Canada on June 7 to seek for opportunities to boost exports to the North American country.
During the five-day visit, the delegation held working sessions with a number of local businesses and visited convenience stores and coffee shops in the country.
At a seminar in Ontario province, the firms were introduced by the market study firm BPT to Canada’s coffee market, distribution channels and ways of approaching, food safety regulations governing coffee and coffee-related products and consumer habits.
The Vietnam Coffee Corporation (VINACAFE) signed an agreement with Kien Phat Canada Co. on exclusive distribution rights of Vinacafe products in this market.
Jointly organized by the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), the Trade Mission and the Embassy of Vietnam in Canada, the visit was part of the national trade promotion program in 2010.
Canada is now one of the world’s largest coffee importers, but its purchase of Vietnamese coffee is still modest.
In the first four months of 2010, Canada imported only 979 tons of coffee worth 1.3 million from Vietnam, down 15.9% and 23.9% on-year, respectively, said the Vietnam General Department of Customs. (Vietnam & World Economy)
