The U.S.’s Lacey Act, effective on May 1, has made no impacts on Vietnam’s exports of wooden furniture products to the North American nation, said Nguyen Ton Quyen, chairman of the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association (Vifores).

None of Vietnamese wooden furniture consignments to the U.S. have been returned, Mr. Quyen said.

Domestic exporters have proved that the materials of their products were harvested and exported legally, he added.

Vietnam’s woodwork exports to the U.S. are rebounding with the prices rising by 2%-3% from a year earlier, the chairman noted.

Positive signs from the U.S., the largest market for Vietnamese wooden products, are likely to help domestic firms realize a target of US$3 billion in export revenues this year, Quyen said.

Vietnam earned US$1.5 billion from woodwork exports in the first five months of 2010, up 35% from a year earlier. (Nong Nghiep Viet Nam June 16)
