HCM City Pledged FDI Down 5.9% to $857.9M in Jan-June
Ho Chi Minh City, the southern economic hub of Vietnam, attracted a total pledged foreign direct investment (FDI) of $857.9 million in the first six months of this year, down 5.9% from a year earlier.
Of the sum, $832 million came from 161 new projects and the rest were added by 38 existing projects.
In term of sectors, realty took the lead with only seven projects but accounted for up to 80.7% of the municipal total pledged FDI during the period.
Between January and June, the city licensed 11,388 businesses with a combined registered capital of VND76.13 trillion, up 4.2% in enterprise number and 80.5% in value.
In 2010, HCM City expects to attract $8.4 billion in FDI, up four folds against 2009 figure, and disburse $1.43 billion of that value, up 33.14% on year.
From now to 2015, HCM City, which now has 15 operational industrial parks and export processing zones, will put into operations seven new industrial parks including Dong Nam, Phuoc Hiep and Bau Dung. (Vietnam Economic Times)
