Vietnam-China Trade +49.5% to $12.82B in H1
Trade between Vietnam and China surged 49.5% from a year earlier to $12.82 billion in the first half of 2010, including the Southeast Asian country’s trade deficit of $6.91 billion.
Vietnam reaped $2.95 billion from exports to China during the period, up 39% on-year, while its imports from the neighboring country surged 53% to $9.87 billion, up 53%, the Vietnam Trade Office in China said on July 27.
The Southeast Asia nation’s export staples were mineral (including crude oil) worth $1.07 billion, machinery equipments worth $657.53 million and plant products worth $373.15 million.
Meanwhile, the country’s main imports were machinery equipments worth $2.99 billion, apparel accessories worth $1.87 billion and iron and steel worth $1.44 million.
China has remained Vietnam’s largest trading partner for years but the latter has incurred an annual huge trade deficit with the former during the period with the peak of $11.5 billion in 2009, representing 93.9% of Vietnam’s total.
Vietnam and China are trying to raise the bilateral trade to $25 billion this year from $21.35 billion in 2009. (
