ASEAN Ministers Meeting Expected to Boost Regional Economies
Ten economic ministers from ASEAN countries gather at a meeting in the Vietnamese city of Danang today [August 25] to discuss ways for establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015 to boost regional economic growth.
The 42nd ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting (AEM-42) attract eight economic ministers from partners, comprising China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India, the EU and Russia.
At the AEM-42, the ministers will talk about measures to bolster the regional economic development by cutting trade boundaries and bureaucracies, aiming to promote freer movement of goods and services.
They will also discuss efforts to narrow development gaps among member-nations toward the ASEAN Economic Community, focusing on investments in transportation and trade while building up capacities, education, culture and tourism.
The measures debated at the AEM-42 will be submitted for approval at the 17th ASEAN Summit scheduled to open in Hanoi in October.
The ASEAN Economic Community Council Meeting (AEC-4), part of the AEM-42, opened in Danang on August 22, highlighting regional logistics development.
The AEC-4, the AEM-42 and several related conferences are taking place in the central city until August 28. (Investment)
