Vietnam PM Urges Haiphong to Become Industrial City
The northern city of Haiphong should fully tap its potentials to become an industrialized city with a focus on maritime services by 2015, Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged at a recent meeting with local authorities.
The province should focus on developing its ports and infrastructure systems, seaport services and tourism, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said, citing Dung as saying.
The city's leaders are need to boost administrative reform to facilitate investments to achieve certain goals, including an increase of the GDP to 13% per year, income per capita to $3,000 by 2015.
The prime minister urged Haiphong to pay more attention to environmental protection, poverty reduction and human resource training.
Haiphong had overcome various difficulties to gain achievements in all fields, with a growth GDP of 11.15% and the rate of industry and services rising to 90% of the local economy during the last five years.
As of August 20, Haiphong licensed 304 foreign-invested projects totaling $4.33 billion, ranking the 11
