Business Exchange Opportunity for Vietnamese, Thai Companies
The Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI-HCM) recently hosted the Vietnam - Thailand business matching in a bid to provide Vietnamese and Thai companies a chance to promote friendly cooperation.
Eleven Thai companies operating in the fields of trading, service, application software and building materials, and more than 40 Vietnamese enterprises attended the meeting to exchange experience and seek business partners.
At that event, Mr Nguyen The Hung, Deputy Director of VCCI-HCM, said: In the past years, Vietnam - Thailand cooperation has been deepened and expanded in all aspects, attaining many uplifting achievements. According to statistics, bilateral trade turnover reached US$6.1 billion in 2009, of which Vietnam earned US$1.3 billion from exports to Thailand while spending US$4.8 billion on imports from Thailand. The two countries expect to bring the two-way trade revenue to US$10 billion in the next 10 years. As regards investment, Thailand now has 216 active projects in Vietnam with a combined investment capital of US$5.7 billion, becoming the eighth largest investor in Vietnam.
In the first six months of 2010, in spite of numerous difficulties, bilateral trade kept its growth momentum, with Vietnam’s exports to Thailand growing 4 % and Thailand’s exports to Vietnam expanding 43 %.
Mr Surasith Bunyabhisand, Deputy Director General of the Department of Industrial Promotion under the Thai Ministry of Industry, said: In the coming time, the Department of Industrial Promotion will send more business delegations to Vietnam to expand trade ties and deepen the bilateral relationship.
