Tourism to Become Key Industry by 2020
In the year 2011, the tourism industry set a target of welcoming 5.5 million foreign visitors, 30 - 31 million domestic tourists, earning VND 110,000 billion, and contributing 4 - 4.5 percent of GDP.
The sector continues to boost promotion activities, especially in overseas markets.
In 2011, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism will complete the "master plan to develop tourism in Vietnam by 2020 - Vision to 2030" to submit to the Prime Minister for approval.
According to the draft "Strategy for Vietnam's tourism development by 2020, with a vision to 2030" of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), Vietnam will welcome 7-8 million international arrivals and 32-35 million domestic tourists, earning up to US$10-11 billion, contributing 5.5-6 percent of GDP. By 2030, tourism revenue is expected to reach twice that of 2020. Tourism will become a key economic sector by 2020 and reach the regional level by 2020 and international level by 2030.
