Int’l Sea Travelers to Vietnam Falls 23.4% to 50,500 in 2010
Vietnam welcomed 50,500 foreign sea tourists in 2010, putting an on-year decrease of 23.4%, the National Administration of Tourism said on its website Jan 6.
In December, the Southeast Asia country received 4,500 international visitors by sea, up 12.5% on month and 4.7% on year, it added.
In fact, Vietnam lacks ports for cruise ships, experts admitted, suggesting suitable locations to build ports for cruise ships along with measures to develop products, spur investment and other activities to boost the segment in the future.
They also urged coastal localities to boost sea tourism promotion and cooperation with regional nations, including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Currently, the number of international sea travelers makes up between 5% and 6% of the total figure of international tourists to Vietnam. (Vietnamtourism)
