Vietnam Tourism Revenues Estimated at $5B This Year
Vietnam’s tourism industry is estimated to have revenues of VND96 trillion (nearly $5 billion) this year, up 37% from a year earlier, said Vu The Binh, head of the Travel Department under the National Administration of Tourism.
The sharp rise is attributed to the strong recovery of the national and world economy as well as efficiency of promotion campaigns.
This year, the country is estimated to have welcomed 5.05 million foreign visitors, some 1.2 million higher than 2009 and 28 million domestic ones, Binh also said, noting that 2010 sees the highest number of foreign visitors over the past 20 years.
Ho Chi Minh City, central localities of Quang Nam, Khanh Hoa and Danang remain tourism hubs of the country in 2010.
The Southeast Asia country aims to attract 5.5 million foreign travelers arrivals next year, up 10% on year and earn tourism revenues of VND110 billion ($5.64 billion).
The tourism industry is expected to contribute 3.9% or VND73.8 trillion ($3.78 billion) to the national GDP this year and 13.1% or VND738.6 trillion (nearly $33 billion) in 2020. (STD, Vietnam Economic Times)
