International donors pledged $64 billion in official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam by end-2010.

In 2010, the donors pledged to provide Vietnam with $7.905 billion ODA in 2011, just 2% lower than last year’s record high of $8 billion.

Of the total, the Southeast Asian country disbursed $28 billion, including $3.5 billion in 2010.

Among the donors, Japan remains the biggest bilateral donors with a total pledged ODA of $7.88 billion, including $1.76 billion last year.

Vietnam needs around $30 billion in ODA next five years though it has become a middle-income country, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem said at the CG meeting opened in Hanoi last year.

It is necessary to channel ODA sources to the private sector through the public-private partnership (PPP) to further engage it in socio-economic infrastructure development, Khiem added. (Labor)
