VCCI, US Embassy to Hold Talk on Asia - Pacific Economic Integration
On July 4, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) will coordinate with the US Embassy in Vietnam to organise a talk on Asia - Pacific economic integration featuring presentations by US APEC Ambassador Kurt Tong. The talk which draws a lot of Vietnamese businesses pinpoints APEC, ASEAN, TPP and opportunities for Vietnamese businesses.
Mr Kurt Tong is the US Senior Official for Asia - Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), managing all aspects of US participation in APEC. He used to be the Director for Asian Economic Affairs at the National Security Council, and a Visiting Scholar at the Tokyo University Faculty of Economics, Japan. He has spent years working and studying in East Asia, including service at the US embassies in Manila, Tokyo, Beijing and Seoul. Most recently, he served as Director for Korean Affairs at the Department of State from 2008 to 2009.
As chair of APEC 2011, the US is launching many activities aiming at regional cooperation promotion. In the coming time, Ambassador Kurt Tong will hold talks with policymakers, academia and business community on APEC cooperation programmes, US standpoints on the Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific (FTAAP), the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (TPP), and issues relating to trade and investment liberalisation and facilitation in APEC.
