In first nine months of 2011, Khanh Hoa’s Industry and Trade sector saw a good growth rate; all fields witnessed strong achievements, and exports increased year on year, greatly contributing to the development of the sector and Khanh Hoa province.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, business activities in the province during first nine months of 2011 saw good growth rates, commodity markets had no sudden changes, and especially, there were positive achievements in export with high growth rate.
In first nine months of 2011, 108 export enterprises gained US$696.3 million, increasing by 41.7 percent against 2010 and meeting 91.6 percent of the year’s plan. Among those, local export was US$688 million, increasing by 42 percent and merchandise export was US$695 million, increasing by 49 percent year on year.
Fishery export in first nine months was nearly 40,800 tonnes of varied types with total value of US$234 million, increasing by 11 percent against previous years. The consumer market spread in 52 countries and territories (plus one more country against 2010), in which America still kept the top position regarding fishery import from Khanh Hoa, followed by EU and Japan.
Besides, ship building and repair gained US$ 260.2 million, increasing by 65.9 percent, with 7 units newly built which were exported to Germany, Singapore, Panama, exceeding last year’s figure by 4, and the total value was US $ 258.8 million, increasing by 95 percent. Handicrafts made of bamboo and leaves reached US$ 20.3 million, increasing by 33.4 percent. Goods were exported to 43 countries and territories, in which America, Germany and Spain were the leading consumer markets for products from Khanh Hoa. According to Mr Nguyen Ngoc Minh, Director of Department of Industry and Trade, this allowed Khanh Hoa to meet the many difficulties from 2010 to the beginning of 2011 with considerable decrease in number of orders and goods. However, some enterprises tried to maintain production, keep jobs for labourers, and made efforts to seek new markets and retain traditional partners, therefore, they gradually recovered and maintained growth.
Garment and textile products had growth rate of nearly 18 percent (against 2010) in the first 9 months, with total export turnover of US$ 37.2 million. The market spread over 35 countries and territories, mainly focusing on America and the EU.
At the moment, Khanh Hoa province has over 100 export enterprises with many stable products such as fishery, textile and garment, and handicrafts of bamboo and leaves. Sharing about his export goods, Mr Minh said that for the past 10 years, turnover export of fishery, the key export product of Khanh Hoa province, has always accounted for a high percentage (over 50 percent) in the whole provincial export turnover. There are over 40 plants processing fishery for export in the province, including 25 frozen plants. Many plants meet the requirements to export to demanding markets like the EU, America, and Japan.
The second key export product newly arising since the early 2011 is ship building. From 2008 to 2010, export turnover of this product only accounted for 20-25 percent. However, since the beginning of 2011, it has increased to nearly 40 percent of the provincial turnover. In the first 10 months of 2011, Khanh Hoa province exported 8 ships with total value of nearly US $300 million. In addition, regular export products such as textile and garment, handicraft, cigarette, sand and beer accounted for a small percentage of the whole province export turnover.
The province has boosted business promotion activities in foreign markets, intensifying communication on the provincial brand and products through commercial promotion to seek opportunities to increase export volume, attract new customers and expand export markets. Enterprises are mobilized to join the activities of the National Commercial Promotion Programme in 2011 and coming years.
Businesses need to take advantage of Vietnam product competitiveness when issued preferential C/O to boost exports to markets signing multilateral and bilateral agreements with Vietnam such as ASEAN, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand and India.
