Along with the achievement of socio-economic development of the province, in the recent years, Binh Phuoc industry has had numerous breakthroughs, rising to assert its role in local economic development. Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Le Van Uy said: "In the future, we will give priority to the development of the processing industry - a key industry with competitive advantage for the province, and also focus on improving the quality of the main products towards increasing export performance.” Hoang Lam reports.
In 2012, the fluctuating economic situation negatively impacted business activities. So how does Binh Phuoc industry proactively anticipate opportunities and overcome challenges?
In 2012, the industrial production of Binh Phuoc in particular and the country in general faced difficulty due to the economic crisis. However, under timely leadership, direction and support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Provincial Party Committee, and People's Committee, the Binh Phuoc Industry and Trade sector has implemented firmly and synchronously the Government's Resolutions such as Resolution 01/NQ-CP on some of the key measures of direction and implementation plan for socio-economic development and state budget in 2012, and Resolution 13/NQ-CP about some solutions on solving difficulties for business, marketing assistance contributing to production.
Besides the implementation of programs, plans and projects of the provincial People's Committee, the industry has advised the provincial People's Committee to issue Assessment Program identified the major industrial products of Binh Phuoc when joining the WTO in 2011-2015; held the workshop "Private Investment" for businesses in Binh Phuoc province with the aim of sharing and providing information on financial investment opportunities for the province’s enterprises, joined the survey group, checked the operation of the manufactures and businesses in the province to support and remove difficulties for enterprises in terms of capital and tax waivers, building publications the "Handbook to help develop small and medium enterprises" in the province.
The efforts of the business community, entrepreneurs, staff of workers and industry workers in the province are critically important. Many businesses in the province have been very active and creative in overcoming difficulties of lack of production capital, reducing inventory, finding ways to cut costs, shrinking profits, even suffering losses to hold jobs for workers and keep markets. Enterprises are always interested in reviewing corporate governance, reviewing business plans, relocation of resources such as finance, factory premises, machinery and equipment as well as investment projects, market development and human resources. As a result, many businesses can limit difficulty, gradually recovering and creating growth momentum for the future.
In the structure of the economy, export is still the strength of Binh Phuoc. So in the coming time, does the province have any strategy to further improve product quality, increase efficiency towards exports, especially for pepper, cashew nuts and rubber?
Pepper, cashew nuts and rubber are the main products of the province, bringing high economic value. So in order to improve product quality and increase efficiency towards these key export products, in the next time the province will promote investment and planning in the production focused area, the material resources for industrial processing and export. Besides, the province will focus on investment in building infrastructure to attract development resources for producing goods for export.
We will also actively encourage and support business to put out innovative products, equipment and technology in modern way to increase the competitiveness of export products in the international market. At the same time we will strengthen trade promotion activities, advertise products and build our brand to develop and expand export markets.
Regarding exports, commodity diversification is an important factor contributing to increase export efficiency. How does the province focus on this issue? In the coming time, what kind of export items will Binh Phuoc promote?
Export product diversification contributing to increase export efficiency has been a particular interest for the Provincial People’s Committee and other sectors in recent years. Specifically, we encourage and support businesses to diversify processing products types. Besides, we focus on improving product design to meet the needs of export markets.
In the next time, Binh Phuoc will boost 7 key exports products including cashew nuts, finished rubber products, wood products, electronic components and other agricultural products (tapioca starch, dried cassava alcohol and ethanol); cement, clinker, textiles and footwear exports.
Currently, the processing industry plays a very important role in the province's industrial structure, contributing to improving the economic value of goods and products. So over time, how has the province focused on the industry?
Along with the mining industry and the industrial production of electricity, gas and water, the processing industry is one of the key economic sectors to develop the provincial economy. In recent years, the province has focused all capabilities and resources to prioritize the development of processing industries, especially agro-processing industries, food, encouraged and supported businesses to innovate technology to enhance product quality and expand production scale, create large volume commodity products for domestic consumption and export. This helped processing industries products such as cashew nut, finished rubber, cement and clinker become the province's main products.
In fact in the past few years, without the steady growth in the processing sector, the manufacturing industry of the province in general would not have growth like today. In 2005, the province only had 89 enterprises engaged in processing industry (contributing to the industrial production worth VND 1212.3 billion), but now it has increased to 405 enterprises (contributing VND 5813.4 billion). The processing industry development not only contributed to employment and improved people's income, but also created greater economic value in terms of exports. However, we typically export agricultural products as raw materials or semi-processed products, so the value is usually low. Consequently, the most important thing today, besides increasing exports, is improving the quality and added value of the products. Among them, the deep processing investment is one of the most important solutions, followed by building brand for the product.
