After 10 years of construction and development, PTSC Production Services Joint Stock Company (PPS) is today proud to become a leading FPSO/FSO service supplier in Vietnam and make continuous development and progress in regional and international markets. In 2013 and subsequent years, the company’s leadership and staff are resolute to promote solidarity, creativity and effort to complete all tasks to make more positive contributions to national development. Vietnam Business Forum interviewed Mr Nguyen Vinh Nhi Phuong, PPS Director, on the company’s achievements. Van Luong reports.
In recent years, PPS has emerged as a remarkable phenomenon in FPSO/FSO service supply industry in Vietnam. Could you tell us more about the progress you have made?
PPS has robustly developed from a small new, inexperienced business entity into a leading supplier of FPSO/FSO facilities in Vietnam and gradually asserted its position and prestige on the international arena. We are proud of what we have done and confident of more success worthy of membership to PTSC - the labour hero in the renovation period.

It is easy to see in the last 10 years that the leadership and staff brimmed with wholeheartedly enthusiasm have promoted the spirit of unity to overcome difficulties, master techniques and technologies, and achieve important development milestones in FPSO/FSO development of the company in particular and PTSC Corporation in general. Before PPS, the operation and maintenance of FPSO/FSO vessels was performed by foreign partners. After 10 years of constant effort, PPS’s FPSO/FSO services have become one of six core services of PTSC Corporation and gradually replaced foreign contractors in the domestic market. The company’s services are also trusted and appreciated by international partners.

At first, the company provided services for FPSO Ruby Princess owned by PCVL and developed ROV (remotely operated underwater vehicle) services. Today, PPS has supplied services, operated and managed 10 FSO/FPSO vessels and hundreds of survey services. Currently, Ruby Princess FPSO, Ruby II FPSO and Orkid FSO that PPS supplied services are the pride of not only PPS but also PTSC Corporation. PPS’s services meet international safety standards such as OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004 and quality management system standard ISO 9001:2008 and are highly appreciated by domestic and international customers for service quality and professional service.

Today, the pride of PPS is the modern synchronised equipment system together with a strong workforce of professional, well-trained engineers with working experience in international environment. With the dynamic, creative and daring spirit of our staff, after 10 years of construction and development, PPS has made long strides both in quantity and quality, exceeded business targets assigned by superiors, ensured absolute safety of people and vehicles, and constantly improved the spiritual and material life of employees. In the past 10 years, PPS achieved more than VND7,100 billion of revenue, paid more than VND1,500 billion to the State Budget, and donated more than VND10 billion to social security. The performance enabled PSS, together with PTSC and PetroVietnam, to fulfil economic and political tasks assigned by the Party and the Government. With its service quality and capability, PPS has established a strong foothold in crude oil storage and handling facilities, supply of personnel for FSO/FPSO vessel operation in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Corporate culture plays a special and important role in the sustainable development of an enterprise. How have you exercised this at PPS?
In my opinion, in the business world, the success of a company is not decided by existing capital and modern technology but by how the people inside the company are organised and what values lead them. Building corporate culture is a long, painstaking process; thus, the leadership must have a proper perception and standpoint, a strong faith and a burning desire. Whatever made is convincing only when it serves common benefits. Building corporate culture is to serve the common interests of the entire enterprise in the process of survival and development.

Particularly, the company must build an institutional system consisting of issues related to professionalism like perfection and clarity of works based on harmony of rights and responsibilities, rights and obligations; knowledge standards and skill standards; spirit and attitude; processes of controlling and analysing works that help leaders and managers make wise, market-driven decisions and build up the trust and respect of employees to leaders and that let employees know how effectively they exactly do. That is what I have utilised since I led this company.

So, what are the key factors to the success to PPS?
The 10-year period of construction and development is not too long, but enough for PPS to make historical feats. PPS always demonstrates dynamism, creativity, and performance, not only raising the level and position of a company in the country but also gaining the appreciation of foreign partners. PPS, from the leadership to the staff, is determined to promote creativity and enterprise. Once PPS does anything, it will try its best to achieve the highest results. It always strives to grasp opportunities to overcome production and business objectives assigned by PTSC Corporation and PetroVietnam Group and follow PTSC Corporation and PetroVietnam Group to perform tasks, plans and policies of the Party and Government concerning inflation prevention, economic recession curbing, economic growth maintenance and social security guarantee. With its desires for constant growth, along its pioneering and creative spirit, PPS has fully prepared to take on all tasks assigned and bring more benefits not only to the oil and gas industry but also to the country.
