In the tough context of Vietnam's sugar industry facing many challenges such as material, price, and smuggling, many sugar businesses find it difficult to survive and develop their brands. However, recognising the sustainable development and grasping the market principles, Nuoc Trong Sugar Joint Stock Company (NutroJSCO) is taking steps to overcome difficulties and build up its own local brand to achieve significant success in the market.
Officially established on October 10, 2005 and transformed from a branch of the Tay Ninh Sugar Company, NutroJSCO has been taking the advantages of the current designs of Cuban experts in the sugar industry and equipments imported from Spain, Germany, the former Soviet Union and China, as well as some domestically manufactured machinery. Besides, the company has tapped into the potential of Tay Ninh known as the "capital" of sugar. Besides, since May 1995, the company has increased its capacity from 500 tonnes to 1,000 tonnes of sugarcane per day to consume the large supplies of sugarcane in Tay Ninh.
Besides the investment in machinery and equipment to increase capacity, reduce production costs and create a friendly environment, NutroJSCO also focuses on investing in high quality inputs. The company starts its practical action plans by creating strong contacts with the sugarcane growers through the long-term contracts and offering the farmers other benefits such as product consumption, insurance coverage for products destroyed by fire, and non-refundable subsidies in cash for land not under control of the company or plowing subsidies for the land under the control of the company, which is equivalent to VND9 million per hectare for the newly planted sugarcane and VND4 million per hectare for 4 season-aged sugarcane roots. Besides, the company is implementing other policies related to the effective use of agriculture land and mechanisation of sugarcane cultivation, which ensures a stable average capacity of 1,000 tonnes of sugarcane per day. Therefore, while many sugar factories in the country are now concerned about the lack of raw materials, NutroJSCO always ensures the earliest operation and commits with the longest operating time (approximately 7 months), compared with other companies in the same industry.
Currently, NutroJSCO is enhancing the management effectiveness through the maintenance and improvement of the management system by applying ISO 9001:2008 standard. Currently, the RS branded product of the company is standardised and recognised by the customers. The number of the RS products, manufactured under the sulfuric chemical method, reaches 20,000 tonnes per year. The designs and packages of the products meet the requirements of the customers. Besides, to contribute to environment protection, NutroJSCO has strictly complied with the sewage treatment standards. Interviewed about the sewage treatment system, Nguyen Thanh Doi, Director of NutroJSCO, said that the company always adopts a strict monitoring system to sort waste and gradually improves the effectiveness of its sewage treatment system in compatibility with the national standards on waste water discharge. Specifically, the company has upgraded two of the treated wastewater storage tanks and built reservoirs to contain wastewater from the production line, thereby treating the waste water based on the registered quality standards and ensuring good sanitation and sustainable production.
To build up a firm stand on the market, even in the context of difficulties and challenges, the company pays close attention to putting on training courses for employees to improve capacity, management, and professional and technical skills to meet the higher requirements of the jobs. Besides, the company provides the employees with good living conditions. The company also contributes many social supports by building the social houses, establishing the funds for poor students, supporting the Agent Orange victims, giving aids for floods areas and other local activities including the construction of the rural roads. Along with the firm development milestones and great efforts of the leadership and staff of the company, NutroJSCO will achieve more success in the time to come.
