On the occasion of International Women's Day, March 8, Vietnam Business Forum interviewed Ms Luu Hanh, who has a nearly 20 years of experience in beauty care. She is the owner of Magic Beauty & Spa and Marbert Beauty & Spa brands, and the director of Minh Tu Trading and Services Co., Ltd, which imports and distributes upmarket cosmetics from Germany, France, and elsewhere. Bao Ngoc reports.
Why did you get involved in beauty and cosmetic industry?
Perhaps, I did not choose my career but it chose me. Since I was a child, I was fond of beautification. I always knew how to do my make up in my own style. I also took care of beauty of my family members. My liking gradually grew to my passion: Pursuing the more beautiful and the perfect.

After 10 years accumulating experience, I decided to run my own beauty business and set up a salon at 60 Ngo Quyen Street (Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi). At first, I often suffered losses because of no experience and regular customers. But, every cloud has a silver lining. After one year running my spa, I was invited to become an exclusive distributor of Marbert cosmetics (Germany), and then Matricol and Matrigel biological collagen masks of Dr. Suwelack - Skin & Health Care, also from Germany. With the chance to explore, experiment and sense new technologies or products, I could choose what was the best for my customers. Then, my business became prosperous.

Would you mind revealing your company’s secrets to attract women to enhance their beauty?
With the recent boom of beauty industry, Minh Tu does not choose to run after the market but focuses on service quality. Customers are served with products imported and distributed by us. Besides, two spas run by Minh Tu have experienced beauticians and state-of-the-art beautifying facilities to serve customers.

Compared with men, women have certain limitations but they also have strengths in management. What are they?
Women are traditionally called the weaker sex because of physical and gender limitations. In my opinion, a modern manager must have leadership capacity and quality to lead his/her business through tough times. It may be reflected in his/her assertiveness, powerfulness and steely spirit to working pressures. Vietnamese women have one special virtue that western women may not have: Patience and gentleness. Behaving softly or toughly in case of necessity will make her a perfect leader.

Do you have any message to womankind on the occasion of International Women's Day?
As an active entrepreneur in the beauty industry, I think every woman is a rose from her birth. To keep that rose fragrant, we must always know how to take care of our beauty and health. Beauty-induced confidence and mood will always be a source of motivation for womankind to face fatigues and worries in life. That is also a secret for me to be active in work and be happy with my family. On the occasion of International Women's Day, I would like to express my best wishes with health, youthfulness and confidence to all women.
