Established in late 2008, De Heus Vietnam has now become the top 10 biggest animal feed manufacturers in Vietnam with 6 factories across the country. “Our regional office will be in Ho Chi Minh City and from here we will continue to further penetrate other markets in South East Asia,” said Mr Gabor Fluit, General Director of De Heus when sharing with Vietnam Business Forum about the importance of Vietnam in the development strategy of De Heus in South East Asia. Le Phuong reports.

What are De Heus’ investment and business results after 5 years of operation in Vietnam?
De Heus Vietnam was established in late 2008 with the acquisition of two existing animal feed factories in Binh Duong and Hai Phong. In 2011, we expanded with a brand new, state-of-the-art factory in Dong Nai and the strategic acquisition of an aqua feed factory that has been developed into a modern aqua feed factory. In 2014, we start the construction of a highly automated factory in Vinh Phuc and a medium-size factory in Binh Dinh. This will give us a strong presence in Vietnam, with 6 factories nationwide. We are currently in the top 10 biggest animal feed manufacturers in Vietnam.

What are the key factors in De Heus’ success in Vietnam market?
Our goal is to make progress by working closely with our customers. By working together we can improve the performance at farm level. We have a very experienced technical team in Vietnam who are supported by our Dutch specialists. Together they spend a lot of time visiting our customers’ farms, helping them improve their performance and increasing their management skills. They also give advice to our customers on how to achieve the same high performance as Dutch farms.

We are highly responsive to market requirements and customers’ demands. With a strong focus on innovation and feed efficiency, we ensure that our customers receive the best and quickest technical support and we help them to reduce their costs.

We are a flat organization. We are able to make decisions quickly. We have a bottom-up structure which means our employees freely give their opinions. Our people are very experienced, enthusiastic and willing to contribute to the company and help our customers making progress.

Last, but not least, my fluency in speaking Vietnamese helps me understand the culture and the people better. Therefore, I am able to deal with day-to-day operations issues and make quick decisions.

What is the importance of Vietnam in the development strategy of De Heus in South East Asia?
Vietnam is our success story. Therefore, Vietnam will play a strategically important role. Our regional office will be in Saigon and from here we will continue to further penetrate other markets in South East Asia.

We currently export our products to Cambodia, the Philippines and Myanmar.  We contribute to the progress and growth of the agricultural sectors in all the countries where we are active.

What is De Heus’ approach to social activities in Vietnam?
We have a project called Hat Mam Xanh (Green Seed) with a slogan “Together for a better Vietnam”. We built classrooms and libraries at local schools. We give lots of scholarships to poor students in agricultural universities.

This year we are paying special attention to our sow project. We give poor families one sow and one year of free animal feed. By doing this, we help them to start farming activities and make some income for their families.

Could you reveal the upcoming ambitions of De Heus in Vietnam, in particular in South East Asia?
All the countries that we currently export to, are in potential countries where we might want to invest in local feed mills. We are currently looking at investment opportunities in various countries and expect to do the first investment by the end of this year or early 2015.
