Resource Protection, Tourism Development Focused in Tam Dao Tourism Planning
Nature bestows Tam Dao with beautiful scenery, giving it the name the "Da Lat of the North” and the second Sa Pa of Vietnam because of its cool, fresh climate. In the early 20th century, the French built Tam Dao into a resort town to serve colonial officers. They built 163 villas, hotels, restaurants, swimming pools, sports courts and dance floors to turn this into the most luxurious, majestic hideaway in Indochina at the time.
War and time ruined the French-built mansions and hotels. The government and the people have invested to build hotels and resorts to serve tourists. But, the unplanned construction has spoiled the beauty of Tam Dao. Recreation, entertainment, shopping, souvenir and restaurant services are unprofessional and unattractive to tourists.
To overcome these limitations and tap potential and advantages, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Phuc province collaborated with the Institute for Rural Construction and Development Planning under the Ministry of Construction to conduct surveys and make detailed plans for the development of Tam Dao 1 Resort, covering 214.87 ha in Tam Dao Town. In October 2014, the Tam Dao District's People's Committee held a meeting to announce the plan.
While completing the Tam Dao Resort planning, the province carried out a project to develop ecotourism in Tam Dao National Park with the aim of protecting forest ecosystems and develop tourism. The province will gradually complete technical infrastructure systems, set up tourism tours and build attractive destinations to make Tam Dao a typical national park of Vietnam and the world. The province will also raise the public awareness of environmental protection and benefit sharing in tourism development. It will also train local labourers to provide tourism services.
