Foreign Tourists to Vietnam Rise 6.6 Pct in First Month of 2015
Foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam in January 2015 reached over 700,000, a 6.6 percent rise against December 2014, but a 9.7 decrease over a year earlier, according to the General Statistics Office.
Specifically, the arrivals visiting the country by air were estimated at nearly 562,000, making up 80.2 percent of the total, while those by sea and road posted almost 6,900 (0.98 percent) and over 131,000 (18.82 percent).
In comparison with January 2014, Vietnam’s top five tourist markets in this month were the Republic of Korea (41.5 percent), Spain (30.6 percent), Finland (21.8 percent), Singapore (16.4 percent) and Italy (12.7 percent).
The remaining markets saw reduction in tourist arrivals to Vietnam, including Hong Kong – China (34.1 percent), Russia (28.7 percent), China (24.7 percent), Thailand (21 percent) and the Philippines (19.5 percent).
In 2015, the domestic tourism sector strives to greet about 8.5 million foreign arrivals and serve 41 million domestic tourists, grossing a revenue of VND270 trillion.
