Legendary Road on Dong Van Karst Plateau
Happiness Road now continues its mission of connecting downtowns with remote areas to help change the face of the border province of Ha Giang and create basic conditions for development of the tourism economy, especially Dong Van Karst Plateau recognised by UNESCO.
The road connects Ha Giang downtown to the four northern mountainous districts of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac stretching 184 km in length. The road called "Happiness-National Highway 4C" was the result of great efforts and creativity of nearly 2,500 people working manually in 6 years from 1959 to 1965.
Towards the 50th anniversary of the road and recognition of the achievements, great contributions, and efforts of the youth who participated in building the road, the Vietnam Young Volunteers led by Chairman Nguyen Anh Lien had a meeting with Ha Giang provincial authorities and took a field trip to make a report to the Party and the State to consider awarding the Young Volunteers and honouring those who died during the construction of Happiness Road. This helps educate the younger generation about the fine tradition of the youth and dedication and sacrifice of the previous generation to build up a road that helps bring prosperity and happiness for highlanders in Ha Giang.

Experiencing moments on Happiness Road amid the wild beauty of the majestic karst and witnessing the heritage values and culture of 16 ethnic minorities, visitors will remember the difficulties, hardships and sacrifices that young workers endured during the construction of the road. This road opened a new era for the socio-economic development of the region with rugged terrain, high mountains, and deep pools of the country.
