Thinking that doing business not only means generating materials to enrich her life and colleagues, but above all, creating sustainable value for social development, human health protection and environmental protection, she has tirelessly studied and introduced the very first clean coal in the country to help people replace toxic coal pellets produced with traditional manual methods. She is entrepreneur Nguyen Thi Hien, Director of Yen Thinh Coal Trading and Processing Co., Ltd.
From thought to action
Working in coal industry and mining supplies for years, she understands, more than anyone else, the danger and threat to the lives of thousands of people using harmful, toxic coal pellets across the country every day in exchange for lower cost of living. As an energetic and enterprising woman, she decided to set up Yen Thinh Coal Trading and Processing Co., Ltd, the first company in Hanoi that uses peat to produce coal briquettes.

In 2012, she renovated technologies to turn out OXI-branded clean coal. With the new product, Yen Thinh became the first and only clean coal producer in Vietnam. The clean coal eliminates 80-90 percent of toxic gas emissions (CO, SO2 and NO2).

Possessing highlighted features and characteristics and affordable prices, her OXI-brand coal briquettes quickly won the trust of Vietnamese consumers in Hanoi and surrounding localities. The market for her OXI-brand clean coal has reached Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong City and is forecast to be exported to other countries in the near term.

The outstanding quality of OXI clean coal earned many awards and honours for Yen Thinh like Capital Trust and Use Brand, Community Health Brand, Vietnam High-quality Goods, and Environment-friendly Product, Product for National Green Environment, Century Famous Brand, Renowned Brand, and many others. Specifically, in 2013, Director Nguyen Thi Hien was decorated with the Golden Rose Award by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in honour of businesswomen with great contributions to national socioeconomic development. In addition, her company is also considered a typical company in Hanoi.

Not only that, to contribute more to society and create more jobs for workers, she has expanded into other business fields like manufacturing and trading construction materials; manufacturing and trading industrial machines, equipment, coal moulds, printing and advertising materials.

Cooperation for success
Consumer confidence in the environment-friendly clean coal briquettes is a reward for her. But, it is impossible for her to create a green, clean and fine environment for the entire community alone. Therefore, with the desire of joining hands to protect the environment and consumer health, she is willing and ready to transfer clean coal production technologies to other businesses to help consumers nationwide gain access to clean coal.

Ms Hien said, “I have spent a lot of effort and dedication to apply scientific progress to neutralising toxic gases in coal while maintaining its burning quality. Actually, I hope more families will use clean coal and I am therefore willing to transfer the technology to small and medium-sized businesses across the country to offer consumers access to non-toxic clean coal. Besides, I really hope to have the opportunity to expand cooperation, invest more in technologies, expand production scale and improve productivity and output supply to the market.”
