Vietnam and Japan on July 9 in Ha Noi inked a sustainable natural resource management project focusing on forests, biodiversity and local residents.
The document was signed by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan and Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam Mutsuya Mori.

The project will be conducted in four northern provinces of Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La and Hoa Binh, and the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong by 2020.

It consists of four components including: (1) policy assistance; (2) sustainable forest management, enhancement of carbon stocks; (3) biodiversity; (4) and knowledge and information sharing on sustainable natural resource management.

The project also targets to realize the goal on 45 percent of forest coverage by 2020; improve forest capacity and quality; and contribute to poverty reduction in rural and mountainous areas.
