Summarized Meeting on “Creating Tech Startups Culture in Danang” Project

 

Danang Hi-tech Park (DHTP) Management Board has cooperated with VN – UK Institute, project leader to execute the project during the period of 4/2015 to 9/2015 with partly sponsor from British Council. The project is approved from Danang People’s Committee and supported from Danang University and Aston University (Birmingham, United Kingdom) with the aim to promote and develop startup and incubating activities in Danang particularly and Vietnam in general.

 

Participants in the meeting are people in Danang startups ecosystem: Representative of Danang People’s committee, Department of Science and Technology, Danang Insitute of Socio-Economic Development; Danang Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, Danang Union of Science and Technology Association, Danang University….., especially there is presence of representative from Vietnam – Finland Innovation Partnership Program (IPP).

 

The meeting aims to summarize results of project, access activities, discuss future direction and cooperation, in which representatives listened and raised discussion basing on 04 research reports:

- Report 2: Experience in Development and Incubation of Startups of The United Kingdom

- Report 3: How Government, Businesses, and Civil Society Organisations can help to create a tech startup culture in danang

- Report 4: Developing University of Danang toward a research and entrepreneurial University

 

 

VN-UK Institute and DHTP Management Board though the project have built a foundation in learning local startup market, building connection with Danang startups community and factors in startup ecosystem; partnership with some incubators in Can Tho and Sai Gon (Korea – Vietnam Incubator Park, Saigon Hi-tech Park Business Incubator, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology – Technology Business Incubation Center (HCMUT-TBI) and partners in UK (Aston University, Birmingham Science Park). The project also has created cooperating chances amongst other factors in Danang startups ecosystem.

 

At the meeting, representatives highly appreciated the idea of developing University of Danang toward a research and entrepreneurial University, which is considered as a strategic solution for sustainable development of Danang innovation system.

 

Mr Riku Makela, expert of IPP Program highly appreciates cooperation amongs factors in Danang startups ecosystem to achieve great results from the project. In the coming time, as IPP Program will start the 2^nd open call for system consortium projects and educational entrepreneurship development projects, Mr Makela is looking forward to having chance to cooperate and support for consortium of DHTP Management Board and VN – UK Institute.

 

PhD. Duong Mong Ha, Rector of VN-UK Institute and Mr Thai Ba Canh, Acting Director General, DHTP Management Board - co-organisers - stated to close the meeting, appreciated results from the projects, committed to develop furhter the partnership and hoped to cooperate with more other parties nationally and internationally to achieve the shared mision to develop Danang startup ecosystem, especially in hi-tech area.
