Fish oil has been long used in the pharmaceutical industry but it is now for the first time brought to the family kitchen with the advent of Ranee premium cooking oil extracted from completely pure freshwater fish oil. This is a new choice of health enhancement for consumers at a relatively low cost.
Pioneer of high-tech application!
Endowed by nature, the Mekong Delta is the largest living environment for pangasius in Vietnam and the catfish processing industry earns billions of US dollars from exports each year. However, the processing industry has left a large amount of fish fat, which contains valuable nutrients for human health but is used to produce biodiesel or exported at a very low price. Le Thanh Thuan, President of Sao Mai Group, soon realised that unreasonableness and harboured a determination to keep valuable resources useful. Understanding that “health is the valuable property of humans and finding every way to turn this source of nutrition to serve human health is a task to be done” and with the suggestions heard from scientific researches on catfish oil presented by the National Institute of Nutrition, he had studied and gone to many countries in the world to acquire know-how to make his dream come true with the catfish.
After studying, experimenting and testing, a US$32 million fish oil refinery with a yearly processing capacity of 72,000 tonnes of raw material a year located in Sao Mai Industrial Park was launched with the aim of uplifting the ASM brand name in the mission of being the first company in Vietnam to build a closed production chain: Farming - processing - production - export. Powered by advanced European technology, the plant employs physical methods in separating, extracting and deodorant processes without using any chemical substances to keep the purity and originality in Ranee cooking oil. In more humanistic perspective, Ranee is an important link in raising new values for pangasius, which has long been defined a strategic export of Vietnam. This is considered the smartest and most humane solution that only Sao Mai Group can do. With a quality management system according to international Food Safety Management System (FSSC) standards, the cooking oil is free from fishy smell while Omega nutrients (Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9) and natural Vitamin E and Vitamin A are maintained.
In spite of being a new product on the market, Ranee premium cooking oil of Sao Mai Group was praised and trusted by consumers. It is clear that the initial success showed the right way ASM had taken to become a pioneer in applying modern technologies and improving Vietnamese pangasius production value chains. In 2016, when the second phase was started, Sao Mai Group will increase investment for automated bottling lines equipped with new European technologies and install fish oil shortening production equipment. The group will scale up the daily output of the plant to 200 tonnes to meet domestic market and export demands when the product is popular in the market.
Good health for every family
According to experts from National Institute of Nutrition under the Ministry of Health, Vietnamese meals are severely undernourished, causing long-term harms to human health. By turning crude fatty fish into edible cooking oil, Sao Mai Group helps Vietnamese consumers to add nutrition to daily meals, helps them protect and enhance their health.
Ranee fish oil contains completely natural nutrients; unsaturated fatty acids like Omega 3, Omega 6, Omega 9, EPA, DHA, Vitamin A, Vitamin E and essential minerals to human health. Fish oil is also very good for pregnant women, young children and the elderly. After a short time on the market, Ranee premium cooking oil Ranee has created a wave of shopping at many places. According to feedbacks from experienced housewives, Ranee not only makes foods more delicious and more nutritious but also protects the health of every family member as the slogan Sao Mai Group gives to it “Ranee takes care of health for every family.”
From an expert perspective, Dr Nguyen Huu Duc, principal professor at the Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University, said that vegetable oil produced from palm oil or coconut oil is helpful for cardiovascular system though, excessive abuse will however turn harmful to human health. Vegetable oil made from peanuts may cause anaphylaxis to those who are allergic to these nuts. He said, fish fat is better than lard and beef fat, even better than palm oil and coconut oil. Therefore, edible oil extracted from fish fat like Ranee is better for human health while it is not allergic or harmful in case of excessive consumption.
With the desire to increase the value for pangasius, evidenced by the introduction of Ranee premium cooking oil - a true Vietnamese product, Sao Mai Group has opened up a new direction for human healthcare by using forgotten values of pangasius, an aquatic species endemic to the Mekong Delta.
