Hanoi Open University hosted an international scientific workshop on "Green Economic Growth," attracting over 300 participants, including domestic and international experts, scientists, and businesses, both in-person and online.
The workshop served as a practical activity to contribute positively to Vietnam's national goal of green economic development.
In her opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhung, President of Hanoi Open University, emphasized that the Party and State have paid special attention to green growth and sustainable development in recent times. Accordingly, Vietnam aims to become a regional pioneer in green growth, keeping pace with the world's new development trends. Green growth is a sustainable development strategy aimed at achieving economic growth while minimizing negative impacts on the environment - a pressing global issue as climate change becomes increasingly complex and unpredictable, and resources and energy become scarce.
However, according to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhung, green economic growth currently faces some practical challenges, including limited awareness of green economy, barriers to capital, scientific and technological resources, and, especially, a shortage of high-quality human resources to meet the demands of development and the shift in the human resource structure towards green economic growth.
In fact, over the past few decades, environmental pollution caused by economic development has made green economy an inevitable trend for countries to achieve economic growth while maintaining environmental sustainability. Additionally, Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence, on the one hand, provide significant support for developing the economy in a "green" way, but on the other hand, also motivate the need to greenify economic activities to enhance the competitiveness of each country and economy. In recent years, Vietnam has stepped up the implementation of plans and strategies for green economic development and has also paid great attention to applying scientific and technological achievements to promote green economic development.
The workshop discussed key topics such as green economic growth models, green growth trends, new challenges for green economic growth, and resources for green growth, including the management and use of resources for green economic growth (green technology, green finance, green accounting, green marketing, etc.), criteria, and standards for evaluating resources for green economic growth.
Moreover, other topics related to the practical development of businesses oriented towards green economic growth, strategies, and policies towards green economic growth, such as promoting investment to expand the scale of green projects, developing a favorable environment for financing green economic activities, cooperation, and regional integration towards green economic growth, were also discussed by the delegates.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhung shared that from the perspective of a higher education institution, the university recognizes its role as a bridge in providing quality human resources, making a significant contribution to promoting green growth; at the same time, it is a place to gather and connect domestic and international experts and scientists with a solid theoretical foundation and deep practical experience in issues related to green economic development. Therefore, the workshop is a concrete and socially responsible action to contribute to the process of implementing Vietnam's sustainable development goals.
Over the past 31 years, Hanoi Open University has cooperated with nearly 100 universities, research institutes, and businesses both domestically and internationally to innovate and improve the quality of training, promote research and technology transfer, and aim to connect and serve the community, training human resources with a solid theoretical foundation, creativity in practice, and meeting the requirements of international integration. With the philosophy of "Open": Open opportunities, Open hearts, Open minds, Open vision, Open future; along with a consistent policy of developing science and technology in parallel with training activities, the organization of the workshop is evidence affirming these viewpoints. Not only does the workshop share, exchange academic knowledge, and connect cooperation but also contributes to identifying issues and providing effective and useful solutions for green economic growth, aiming for a sustainable future, international integration, and green economic development.
