Hanoi-based Sofitel Metropole Hotel and Caravelle Hotel in Ho chi Minh City have been listed in the category of the 18 most favorite hotels and resorts in the Asia-Pacific region by readers of DestinAsian, the luxury travel and lifestyle magazine.

The prestigious rankings were based on voting for the first DestinAsian Readers’ Choice Awards which were held in the latter half of last year through a survey which sought 90,000 readers’ opinions on their favorite destinations, hotels, and airlines in the Asia-Pacific region.

Sofitel Metropole, which was built in 1901, boasts a long tradition of excellent service and distinguished style. Little wonder it was give the “pinnacle of luxury in the Old Quarter” thumbs up for its “French colonial decor” and “decadent ambience.” And as it is the accommodation of choice for many heads of state, the hotel is accustomed to wearing its position of prominence gracefully.

While, Caravelle Hotel, the mainstay in Vietnam’s bustling Ho Chi Minh City offers “French flair and a central location.” Having “the best bar in town [Saigon Saigon]” and “great margaritas” solidifies the Caravelle’s status as the place to be seen in the city. It also racked up victory votes from avid shoppers for its “special weekend-shopping rates” as well as accolades for its “excellent service levels” and value for money.

These awards are particularly meaningful because they reflect the views of readers who are seasoned travelers for business and leisure, and will contribute to improve prestige and image of Vietnamese hotels, an official from the National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said, urging other local hotels to further enhance their standards to make Vietnam not just a favored destination for business travelers, but for leisure travel as well.

Last year, readers of the Guide Awards also chose the two Vietnamese five-star hotels among the best.

Other hotels in this year’s list are hotels ini Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and Sydney.

According to the VNAT, Vietnam has nearly 6,000 accommodation venues with 130,000 rooms and 2,600 one-to five-star hotels including 48 four-star with 5,797 rooms, 116 three-star with 8,330 rooms.
