US Travel Firms to Survey Vietnam Market Next Year

US travel companies will tour Vietnam next year to survey local tourism potential, announced Joe Mannix, Director of United Airlines (UA) in Vietnam.

“The UA only wants to invite high-quality travel firms, which are really interested in the Vietnamese tourism market,” said J. Mannix.

According to J. Mannix, advertising of Vietnamese tourism in the US is still very limited. The slogan “Vietnam - the hidden charm” and Vietnam’s world-class beaches are unknown to most Americans.

The Vietnamese tourism sector should have a narrow marketing strategy focusing on some strong travel groups, said Luu Duc Ke, Director of the Ben Thanh Tourist’s Hanoi Branch.

If Vietnamese travel firms can convince multinational travel groups to send visitors to Vietnam, they themselves will market Vietnam as an attractive destination and even invest in hotels and resorts in Vietnam, Ke noted.

Currently, United Airlines is the sole airway providing direct flights from Vietnam to the US (HCM City - Hong Kong - San Francisco/Chicago) with seven flights per week by Boeing 747-400.

The airline has set up a division called “UA holiday’ that will work with Vietnamese hotels and travel companies to organize tours for American travelers. The business is forecast to be very good in the near future.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism reported that as many as 332,329 US visitors came to Vietnam in the first ten months of this year, up by 17 per cent on-year.

Currently, the US is the third biggest tourism market of Vietnam, behind only China and South Korea.
