The sun warmed Southeastern Asian nation of Vietnam expects to welcome around 4.2-4.4 million international arrivals in 2007, about 600,000-800,000 more than this year, announced the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

The government tourism body also said the number of domestic tourists next year is estimated to be 18.5 million, up about one million from this year.

To this end, the body has urged strong development in personnel training as one measure to achieve the targets.

Tourism promotion programs for 2007 are being carefully planned, the body added, noting it will closely coordinate with relevant agencies to obtain the target.

Vietnam welcomed approximately 3.5-3.6 million foreign arrivals as of December 25, some 7.89 per cent lower than this year’s goal and only 2 per cent or 200,000 higher than the 2005 figure.

Tourism revenue for 2006 is estimated at VND36 trillion (US$2.25 billion), some VND6 trillion (US$375 million) higher than 2005.
